Fraud Tactics Are Evolving—Here’s How to Stay Ahead

Fraudsters are getting smarter, but so are you.
At Caro, we believe knowledge is power—especially when it comes to protecting your identity and your money. Right now, scammers are using increasingly sophisticated tricks to catch people off guard. The good news? A few smart habits can go a long way in keeping you safe.

What’s New in Fraud?

Spoofed Calls and Texts

That call or text might look like it’s from your credit union, your phone carrier, or even your family. But scammers can fake caller ID info and send convincing messages asking you to “verify” sensitive info. Don’t take the bait.

AI Voice Cloning

This one’s new—and chilling. With just a few seconds of audio, scammers can use AI to mimic a loved one’s voice, calling you with an urgent request for money. Always call the person back using a number you know is real.

Account Alerts You Didn’t Sign Up For

Fraudsters might pose as your financial institution, sending fake alerts or locked account messages. These messages often include a link—don’t click it. Instead, log in directly through your Caro Online Banking or mobile app.

What You Can Do
  • Set up account alerts so you’re notified about unusual activity.
  • Never share login credentials, PINs, or verification codes—no matter who’s asking.
  • Hang up and call back if something feels off. It’s better to double-check.
  • Keep your contact info up to date so Caro can reach you if needed.

Fraud prevention isn’t about paranoia—it’s about confidence. The more you know, the harder it is for scammers to sneak past you.

Stay aware. Stay connected. And remember—if something doesn’t feel right, Caro is here to help.
